The inaugural NBC Fun Run in Keetmanshoop, ||Kharas region, attracted around 120 enthusiastic participants.

Runners tackled distances of 21 km, 10 km, 7 km, and 5 km, all while enjoying the excitement of the event.

Just as the rainy season began, the 21 km race kicked off after some last-minute registrations. The cool weather and scenic backdrop made for an ideal running experience.

The NBC Fun Run aims to promote health and wellness among NBC employees while strengthening community ties with local residents and visitors.

Pius Ndeshitila clinched first place in the 21 km run, completing the race in just under two hours. He expressed his surprise and excitement at his performance.

Ndeshitila said"I am actually surprised. I’ve never run this far before; the furthest I’ve gone was ten kilometers, and it took me about one hour and forty-eight minutes to run 21 without rest. I am really proud of myself."

Despite facing challenges, Brian Blaauw participated in the 10 km run and completed the race. He thanked NBC for providing the opportunity to compete and prepare for future events.

"I struggled a little at the beginning, especially on the bridge, but I pushed myself to continue. I usually train alone since there aren’t many disabled runners, but I’m happy to inspire others to see that it is possible." Blaauw said.

NBC Director General Stanley Similo, who also ran, expressed gratitude to the Keetmanshoop community for their enthusiastic support of the event.

"As you can see, I’m still tired from running, but overall, the event was fantastic. It’s quite a challenge, especially as you think a 5 km run is easy, but it feels longer as you go. Thank you to the community in the South, especially those in Keetmanshoop, for supporting this initiative." Similo said.

The next NBC Fun Run is set for October 12 in Swakopmund.
