The lives of more than 20 families at Kuten-Hoas settlement in the ||Kharas Region were transformed when their houses were connected to the national electricity grid.
The Karasburg East Constituency Councillor, Anseline Beukes, switched on the main power plug after the settlement was connected to the electricity grid as part of the government's rural electrification programme.
For years, residents of Kutenhoas lived without electricity, relying on candles, solar panels, and diesel-powered generators for lights and power.
"Today marks a significant milestone in your journey as the inhabitants of Kutenhoas towards progress and development. Electricity is not a convenience. It is a catalyst for growth, opportunity, and prosperity. It empowers us all to connect with the wider world with the flip of a switch. We are embarking on a path towards enhancing living standards, improving education, and expanding economic opportunities for all."
The electrification development was greeted with excitement and celebrations by the local community.
