The Presidency says the bilateral talks between President Nangolo Mbumba and the German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, focused on several issues in the relations between the two countries.

Dr. Mbumba and Scholz met on Monday on the margins of the ongoing Hamburg Sustainability Conference.

In a statement issued, the Presidency said the discussions further included the Joint Declaration on Genocide, Apology, and Reparations and Namibia’s ambition to develop green industries and green hydrogen.

"The President informed us that Namibia and Germany shared a painful past and there was a need to resolve the genocide question in the interests of the affected Herero and Nama communities in particular and Namibians in general. President Mbumba further stressed the need for Germany to do whatever was necessary to ensure that the final round of talks and negotiations on the Joint Declaration reflected outstanding concerns," the statement read.
