Speaker of the National Assembly, Prof. Peter Katjavivi, underscored Cuba's vital role as a longstanding ally to Namibia, particularly during its liberation struggle and in key sectors like education and healthcare, as he leads a multi-party parliamentary delegation on a week-long official visit to Cuba. 

The visit aims to enhance bilateral relations and boost collaboration in areas such as education, healthcare, and parliamentary diplomacy.

Upon arrival, Katjavivi was welcomed by Ana Maria Mari Machado, Vice President of Cuba's National Assembly of the People's Power. The visit, which follows an invitation from Juan Esteban Lazo Hernández, President of the National Assembly, highlights the strong and enduring relationship between Namibia and Cuba.

The delegation, which includes members of the Cuba-Namibia Parliamentary Friendship Group, is set to engage in high-level discussions with Cuban parliamentary leaders, focusing on legislative cooperation and knowledge sharing to support both nations' development goals.

Katjavivi's itinerary also includes a visit to the University of Havana, where he will meet Namibian students studying in Cuba. He emphasised that this visit will build on the solidarity between the two nations and explore new areas of collaboration.

Accompanying Katjavivi on this mission are parliamentarians Gotthard Kasuto, Jennifer Van den Heever, and Joseph Kauandenge.
