The incoming National Unity Democratic Organisation (NUDO) Gobabis local authority councillor, Uataviza Patire, has committed to improving basic services in the town's informal settlements.
Patire succeeds former mayor Elvire Theron, who resigned from the party to join the Republican Party.
During his oath-taking ceremony at a media conference, Patire identified the development of informal settlements as one of his top priorities.
He emphasised the importance of working closely with the youth to ensure their involvement in the town's development.
Additionally, he plans to advocate for a cleaner environment and to attract investors to Gobabis.
"I would like to prioritise the roads in Kanaan C, which present a significant challenge for residents. We need to improve the infrastructure in this area. Another critical issue is the availability of water in the informal settlements. As a young leader, I also want to introduce cleaning campaigns throughout Gobabis to help maintain a clean town."
Patire encouraged young people to actively participate in the upcoming Presidential and National Assembly elections.
