Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey is the new Secretary-General of the Commonwealth.
Ayorkor Botchwey has been serving as Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of Ghana since January 2017.
She was selected during the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of State and Government Summit underway in Samoa, taking over from Patricia Scotland.
President Nangolo Mbumba congratulated Ayorkor Botchwey, expressing his confidence that she would steer the work of the Commonwealth brilliantly and take the organisation to greater heights.
Dr. Mbumba also lauded the former Secretary-General, who is from Scotland, saying she provided excellent leadership to the Commonwealth during her tenure and further wished her success in her endeavours.
