The race for the next United Nations Secretary-General is officially underway, as several countries have already put forward their nominees.

However, the contest is already raising questions about tradition, regional rotation and gender balance at the world body.

Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey is the new Secretary-General of the Commonwealth.

 Ayorkor Botchwey has been serving as Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of Ghana since January 2017. 

The former Secretary-General of the African National Congress (ANC), Ace Magashule has been expelled from the Party.

This was confirmed by the party's National Disciplinary Committee (NDC), which met to deliberate the charges against Magashule on Monday.
