President Nangolo Mbumba has congratulated Botswana's new President, Gideon Duma Boko, and the Umbrella for Democratic Change, following their election victory.
Botswana held its general elections on October 30, where the Umbrella for Democratic Change obtained a threshold of 31 seats to be able to form a government.
President Mbumba said that the Batswana deserve praise for the peaceful elections and congratulated Advocate Boko for a brilliant election to be able to lead Botswana.
He equally commended the outgoing President Mokgweetsi Masisi for accepting the election outcome as the will of the people and for committing to prepare an orderly transition.
Masisi's Botswana Democratic Party had been in power for almost six decades since the country transitioned from being a British protectorate to democratic rule in 1966.
Dr. Mbumba says he looks forward to a continued fruitful working relationship and strengthening of bilateral relations for shared prosperity for both Namibia and Botswana.
President Mbumba recalled the historical ties between the countries, forged during the fight for independence, where many Namibians were sheltered in Botswana during the German colonialism and Apartheid
