The State of Qatar has donated 58,000 boxes of drought relief food to Namibia, valued at N$70 million, which includes transportation costs.
This donation follows President Nangolo Mbumba's declaration of a state of disaster and his appeal to international partners for assistance.
Like many countries around the world, Namibia has been severely affected by persistent drought.
This natural disaster has taken a heavy toll on communities, especially in rural areas where livelihoods primarily depend on agriculture and livestock.
Families are struggling to make ends meet, and the severe lack of water and food has placed immense pressure on the population.
The parcels will be distributed to the hardest-hit regions, including Erongo, Hardap, ||Kharas, and Otjozondjupa.
These items aim to support the Namibian government’s response to the ongoing drought crisis.
The boxes contain rice, cooking oil, soya meat, tuna fish, and canned chicken.
Yousef Al Mulla, Head of Disaster and Emergency Response from Qatar, handed over the donation to Erongo Governor Neville Andre.
