The Namibia Green Hydrogen Programme says the plan is to create jobs that are sustainable and diverse within the renewable energy industry.

Job creation and other benefits that Namibia stands to accrue from its renewable energy industry were underscored during an economic outlook session of the Green Hydrogen Programme.

The session assessed the socio-economic benefits of the green hydrogen industry in the empowerment of youth and small and medium enterprises.

The estimated target is more than 30,000 jobs across different skill sets.

This is against the realisation for the country's economy to diversify to be able to arrest the increasing number of unemployed young people.

The projection, in the meantime, is that the green hydrogen industry would outperform the other GDP-contributing sectors in terms of output.

This is according to the preliminary findings of the socio-economic impact assessment done by the research firm, Monasa Advisory Associates.

The findings of the economic outlook session of the Green Hydrogen Program are expected to inform the overall national policymaking.
