With less than eight days to go to the polls, the police in the ||Kharas Region are ready for deployment at the 171 fixed and mobile polling stations in the region.
Drawing from experience during the recently held special voting, the Police Regional Commander is expecting cooperation from political party agents and Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) officials on voting day.
Commissioner Marius Katamila gave assurance that they have met the expectations of deployment in terms of manpower at all 113 fixed and 58 mobile polling stations in the region's seven constituencies.
"Additional to that, because of the vastness of our region, we have appointed additional commissioned officers that were deployed to different constituencies; they will be visiting the polling stations, including myself as the regional commander."
Sounding a warning to the liquor business owners, the police commander explained that the declaration of 27 November as a public holiday is for the citizens to exercise their democratic rights.
"I want to make it very clear to shebeen owners that Nampol in ||Kharas will not tolerate any shebeen open on that particular day."
Turning to Nampol's cooperation with the political party agents, the commissioner is confident that political parties will come to the table and adhere to the Code of Conduct.
"I would like to appeal to the political parties that going to the elections, going forward for us to retain that relationship so that on D-Day everybody is aware of what to do, and I am actually anticipating our elections to be flawless, but that is not a guarantee."
