The police have reported a series of incidents across the country over the Easter weekend, ranging from suspected diamond smuggling at the border to a violent robbery and a break-in at a government office.
In the south, a 64-year-old Namibian man was arrested at the Ariamsvlei Border Post on Friday evening after officials discovered 26 suspected unpolished diamonds in his luggage.
The man, who was travelling as a passenger in a truck entering Namibia from South Africa, also had a diamond tester in his possession.
Police confirmed that he had exited Namibia through the Noordoewer Border Post on 11 April.
The diamonds were seized and sent for verification, though their value has not yet been determined. He is expected to appear in the Karasburg Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
In a separate incident, a 32-year-old South African man was arrested at Hosea Kutako International Airport after becoming violent when he missed his flight to Cape Town.
According to police, the man arrived late for his scheduled FlyAir departure and was informed by Paragon Aviation Services that boarding had already been completed.
Enraged, he punched and shattered the glass counter, which has a replacement cost of N$25,000. He was detained and is facing charges of malicious damage to property.
In Windhoek, police arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with a violent armed robbery that occurred on Saturday in Pioneerspark.
The suspect was allegedly part of a group of four assailants who stabbed a victim multiple times with knives and stole two iPhones and a JBL headset.
During questioning, the suspect allegedly confessed and identified three accomplices who are still at large. Police have recovered the stolen items, while the victim remains hospitalised with serious injuries.
Authorities also confirmed a break-in at the Office of the Minister of Health last Thursday.
An unidentified suspect is said to have gained unauthorised access to the minister's office, tampering with a laptop, desktop computer, and other personal belongings.
Although nothing was stolen, all her personal and work items were tampered with, said the police. No arrests have been made.
