Ten trial-awaiting inmates escaped from the Onandjaba police holding cells in the Omusati Region on Wednesday.

No arrests have been made so far, and the police are on the ground searching for the escapees.

It is alleged that they escaped by cutting a hole in the roof of the facility's dining hall.

The escapees have different cases ranging from murder, housebreaking with intent to steal, robbery, stock theft, anti-poaching, and rape.

The inmates are all men from Namibia and Angola.

Many of the escapees' footprints were tracked crossing the border into Angola, and suspicions are that they are in the neighbouring country.
