More than 950 students from all 14 regions graduated from the Institute for Open Learning (IOL) in Windhoek.
IOL strives to ensure that higher education is accessible to the broader population, not limited to those who can afford full-time studies.
Since the establishment of IOL in 2005 with only 2,500 students, the institution has over the years transformed itself into a fully-fledged online institution of higher learning, with over 61,000 students in Namibia.
The students graduated in education and policing.
Chief Executive Officer of Education at IOL, Ilan Calitz, commended the new graduates on their accomplishments and the beginning of their new chapter as members of the IOL Alumni Community.
"Today is a celebration of achievement, hard work, and resilience. I stand before you with great pride as we recognise the outstanding accomplishments of our 952 graduates from all 14 regions of Namibia. Today is a day that will be remembered, not just as the conclusion of your academic journey but as the beginning of your new chapter as a member of the IOL Alumni Community."
Guest Speaker, Freddie Engelbrecht stated that education is about developing people in the dimensions of human life.
"Our teachers are educators, and they need spiritual maturity to be educators that deliver quality and build the nation, so in conclusion, I promise to our graduate teachers that I will ask them if my lessons are okay."
Some of the graduates expressed pride, saying their hard work throughout their academic journey paid off.
