The Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) has expressed alarm over reports that the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) is summoning IPC polling agents to warehouses or police stations for the purpose of reopening ballot boxes from the recent elections.
In a letter seen by the nbc, the IPC has confirmed receiving such reports from various regions, including |Khomas and Erongo.
The party is questioning the source and intention of this directive, stating that reopening ballot boxes from a concluded election is "highly inappropriate and illegal," particularly given that there is an ongoing court application regarding access to election materials.
"We have the names and contact details of the officers making these calls, and we have verified the authenticity of the reports," IPC General Secretary Christine !Aochamus stated.
The party has called on ECN Chief Electoral and Referenda Officer Peter Shaama to urgently clarify the directive and provide an explanation for this action.
ECN spokesperson De Wet Siluka has confirmed that the electoral body has received the letter. "We are studying the contents of the letter before we can respond," he said.
