The Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) has confirmed a ransomware attack targeting Telecom Namibia. The authority highlighted the importance of enhanced cybersecurity measures to protect critical infrastructure and consumer data.
CRAN responded to the Telecom Namibia hack incident through its Namibia Cyber Security Incident Response Team (NAM-CSIRT), and threat intelligence revealed that the Hunters International ransomware group allegedly exfiltrated sensitive data.
CRAN CEO and NAM-CSIRT Head, Emilia Nghikembua, said, "Cybersecurity incidents impacting critical infrastructure and consumer data require utmost vigilance and collaboration. We are actively working with the operator to address the breach and reinforce security."
