Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah says the welfare of men and women in uniform should not be neglected.
Dr. Nandi-Ndaitwah was speaking at the inauguration of the Kunene Regional Police Headquarters in Opuwo.
The Kunene Police Regional Headquarters in Opuwo was constructed at a cost of over N$100 million.
The building includes the administration block with 44 offices, nine record rooms, a boardroom, and a vehicle clearance building.
"A beautiful building of this design must be operated by people of good hearts. Our men and women in uniform who are ready to put their lives on the line on behalf of us deserve the best, and in their good hearts, that made them choose a policing career. Therefore, we have no doubt that you are going to perform your duty with commitment and dedication. I can only tell you that as a nation we highly appreciate your good work."
She encouraged officers to guard against any form of vandalism.
Police Inspector General Joseph Shikongo called on the officers to maintain discipline.
"It goes without saying that a police force without discipline cannot achieve its goals, aims, and objectives. However, discipline does not only mean respecting your superiors but also how you conduct yourself, whether on or off duty. We must therefore render professional services to all Namibians without considering their colour, race, religion, creed, and status in society."
Construction of the Kunene Police Headquarters began during the reign of Commissioner James Nderura.
