The Chief Executive Officer of the Mariental Municipality, Paul Nghiwilepo, has reassured residents of a secured water supply.

Residents went into a panic mode after the water supply from the nearby Hardap Dam was cut off.

However, Nghiwilepo clarified that NamWater interrupted the town's water supply to install a submersible water pump in the Hardap Dam.

NamWater adapted to the new method of water abstraction due to the dam's low levels; however, the town's water supply has since been restored.

"The method of abstracting water from the dam to the purification plant is not the normal method that NamWater uses to abstract water for purification; they have a submersible pump they are using to abstract the water, so there were few challenges with the pump."

The Chief Executive Officer said the water level of the Hardap Dam was 5.7% on December 16th.

Touching on the imminent rainy season and the town's readiness for possible floods, Nghiwilepo said they are ready to deal with it.
