The Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) has filed notices against the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN), alleging widespread irregularities in the recent Presidential and National Assembly elections.

The party’s president, Panduleni Itula, called the conduct of the ECN a disgrace and a violation of the rule of law and wants the results declared invalid, unlawful, and set aside.

The IPC is challenging the presidential election, won by Swapo Party candidate Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah with 58% of the vote, and is demanding fresh elections. It is also contesting the National Assembly results, where Swapo secured 51 of 96 seats, claiming breaches of the Electoral Act undermined the process.

The IPC’s complaints include the two-day voting extension in select constituencies, which the party claims was unconstitutional and failed to ensure fair participation.

Equipment malfunctions on the initial voting day reportedly caused delays and prevented some voters from casting their ballots.

The party has included multiple respondents, including the President, the ECN, as well as opposition parties, among others, who have five days to respond.

The IPC intends to bring the matter before the Electoral Court on 15 January.
