President Nangolo Mbumba has congratulated Mozambique's President-elect, Daniel Chapo, and the Frelimo Party after they were declared as winners in the general elections, held on the 7th of October.
Mozambique's top court's Constitutional Council upheld the election outcome as declared by that country's National Electoral Commission, following a dispute lodged by the opposition.
In a statement, President Mbumba expressed confidence that President-elect Chapo will lead the people of Mozambique towards prosperity, unity, and greater heights of development.
He says the shared history between Namibia and Mozambique, forged during the struggle for liberation, always provided a sound foundation to strengthen economic cooperation.
President Mbumba says the government of Namibia looks forward to working with President-elect Chapo and the Frelimo government for continued fruitful bilateral relations in the interest of the citizens, peace, and a prosperous SADC region.
Chapo won 65 percent of the vote, while the main contender, Venâncio Mondlane, garnered 24 percent.
These results were confirmed by the court against the 71 percent for Chapo and Modlane's 20 percent, initially declared by the National Electoral Commission.
