The Keetmanshoop Hospital has launched an endoscopic machine with the outreach medical team from the Onandjokwe Hospital.
Speaking to nbc News, the Medical Officer of Keetmanshoop Hospital, Bako Motinga, said the machine will assist medical officers in diagnosing and treating gastro and intestinal diseases.
"We pass a camera through the mouth of the patient or the colon and then look at the lining of the stomach for any abnormalities or any source of disease."
Motinga said it is important for the early detection of diseases that arise from gastro and intestinal tracts.
"We can detect these things early, particularly cancer that arises from the stomach or all organs that are within the abdominal cavities."
The endoscopic machine currently serves the ||Kharas Region, but efforts are underway to also serve the Hardap Region.
