Onesi Constituency Councillor Festus Petrus has warned community members of Onesi and surrounding areas to exercise caution after a crocodile was spotted at Etaka Dam.

The Etaka Dam is situated in the Onesi area in the Omusati Region and stretches 14 kilometres from north to south.

Petrus told Nampa on Saturday that the crocodile was spotted on Friday afternoon by children who were busy fishing at the time.

“The presence of the crocodile poses a potential risk to both humans and livestock, and residents are advised to avoid fishing,” he said.

He added that there might be more crocodiles at the dam, which could be a danger to the people.

Petrus stressed that people should, therefore, always be very vigilant to prevent the loss of lives.

Contacted for comment, Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism Spokesperson Romeo Muyunda said they are monitoring the situation.

Muyunda then cautioned the public to be vigilant as they make use of the Etaka dam to avoid the loss of lives.
