The City of Windhoek will begin relocating households affected by recent flooding in Havana and Otjomuise, with preparations already underway at Goreangab.

City spokesperson Lydia Amutenya confirmed that relocations are anticipated to commence today following severe flooding that impacted 282 households and displaced 1,189 residents.

Eight houses were completely washed away in the flooding, which affected numerous streets, including Matshitshi, Mersin, and Ganzi.

Temporary shelters and food parcels will be provided, said Amutenya.

“Some of the affected households had previously been relocated due to similar incidents, while others settled in flood-prone areas vacated by former residents,” she said.
