Preparations for the Guinas Constituency by-election are well on track.

The by-election, which is slated for Friday next week, has been necessitated by the death of Councillor Elias Marthinus last year.

The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) says it is at an advanced stage in executing activities for the by-election.

Only two political parties will contest in the by-election, namely, the Landless People's Movement and the Swapo Party.

LPM's Fransiscus Khumub and his older brother, Swapo's Moses Khumub, are the only two candidates to contest the by-election set for the 17th of this month.

The Commission, in consultation with key electoral stakeholders, has established five fixed and fifteen mobile polling stations.

The printing of ballot papers commenced on Friday after the verification and signing off of the sample ballot paper by authorised representatives of contesting political parties on the 8th.

50 polling officials will be deployed at various polling stations.

Their training will be conducted from 11 to 15 January, whilst the training of Police Officers and Political Party Agents already took place.

The Commission will issue duplicate voter cards from 14-16 January to registered voters who registered to vote in the Guinas Constituency and whose cards are either lost, destroyed, or unreadable.

Voters are required to provide proof of identity and a police declaration.
