The Municipality of Walvis Bay has suspended the General Manager of Finance, Frans !Gonteb, and the Manager of Finance, Johanna Shidute, to allow unhindered investigations into the appointment of Red Force Debt Management.

In a media release, the public relations office explained that no imputations of any nature are against the suspended employees, but the suspension is to ensure an unfettered investigation.

Red Force Debt Management has served the summons on the municipality for litigation in the High Court for the cancellation of its services.

President Nangolo Mbumba will attend the Africa Fertiliser and Soil Health Summit in Nairobi, Kenya, at the invitation of Kenya's President William Ruto and the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, which started today and will end on the 9th.

President Mbumba will proceed to Rotterdam, Netherlands, to attend the World Hydrogen 2024 Summit and Exhibition from May 13 to 15, 2024.

Today marks three months since President Hage Geingob died.

The late Geingob was the third president of Namibia and the first to die in office.

He died on the 4th of February after battling cancer, ending his second term of office before time.

The Minister of Labour, Industrial Relations, and Employment Creation, Utoni Nujoma, says there is much that can be done to strengthen the relationship between the government and the trade unions. 

Nujoma says he intends to invite trade union leaders to meet in the near future to brief each other and explore concrete ways to support trade union priorities.

The Cabinet has directed the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development, in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice, to prepare and propose amendments to Section 74(4) of the Electoral Act.

The Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism is currently conducting an assessment to determine the extent of rhino poaching. In light of the recent poaching incidents in the park, the ministry has also requested an urgent high-level meeting with the security cluster.

To date, a total of 28 rhinos have been poached in Namibia. Out of these, 19 were poached in the Etosha National Park, while the remaining 10 were discovered during dehorning operations throughout the month of March.
