Joseph Kauandenge, the Secretary General of the National Unity Democratic Organisation (NUDO), has criticized the unwillingness of some Namibian politicians to relinquish their positions and give others a chance to serve.
As his tenure in the 7th Parliament nears its end in two months, Kauandenge reflected on the pervasive culture of clinging to power, which he described as detrimental to the political landscape.
He expressed his fascination with politicians who are unwilling to give others an opportunity to serve.
"Many will go to great lengths to smear others’ names in order to remain members of parliament, regional councils, or town councils," Kauandenge said in a recent statement.
He questioned why politicians struggle to accept the temporary nature of public office.
Kauandenge lamented the lengths to which some politicians will go to retain power, even resorting to what he termed unethical and extreme measures.
The lawmaker expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and optimism for life beyond public office.
