The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) says without the final report on the boundaries, it cannot embark on the process of registering eligible voters for the Regional Council and Local Authority elections earmarked for the end of this year.

Therefore, the Commission welcomed the submission of draft recommendations to President Nangolo Mbumba.

The Commission provided technical information to the Boundaries, Delimitation, and Demarcation Commission about the running of elections and the number of eligible voters.

"The Commission is pleased to hear that the first element of this process is concluded and looking forward to the second element, which is demarcation, because that will inform our processes. As you all know, this year the Commission will conduct the Regional Council and Local Authority elections, where all eligible voters are required by law to register within their constituencies. Equally so, they will be required to vote within their constituencies, and without the boundaries, the work of the Commission cannot start because we need to register the voters within their constituencies," said Peter Shaama, Chief Electoral & Referenda Officer at the ECN.
