Residents of Tsumkwe Settlement in the Otjozondjupa Region gathered for a New Year community engagement organised by Ombaye Fishing Company.

The event was held at the site where the company plans to construct a community guesthouse.

The chairman of Ombaye Fishing Company, Libboly Haufiku, highlighted various contributions the company has made to the Tsumkwe community.

These include the expansion of the local clinic, the construction of nurses' houses, the purchase of an ambulance, support for schools, and the distribution of goats to community members.

Haufiku announced the guesthouse project, emphasising that it will belong to and be managed by the residents.

He also urged community members to help with the construction process, noting that local contractors will receive the building tender.

The Chief of the Ju|'hoansi Traditional Authority, Tsamkxao ǂOma, expressed gratitude to the company for its support, including past projects, and welcomed the new initiative.

The Deputy Minister of Marginalised Communities, Royal |Ui|o|oo, attended the event and advised the community to safeguard the building once it is completed.

Haufiku assured the community that construction of the guesthouse will commence this year, marking a significant step toward economic development and self-determination.
