With the Uis-Khorixas road undergoing an upgrade from gravel to blacktop, some residents of Otjikakaneno village at the border of the Erongo and Kunene regions are hoping to tap into the development that comes with major route links.

The village is in the rural Omaruru District, where the majority of women vendors make a living from selling ornaments and artefacts in their makeshift structures along the main road.

The residents also want to benefit from the rural electrification programme.

They also need a school, health centre, flushing toilets, and a police station to serve a community of over 2000 inhabitants.

Radio and cellphone coverage is another challenge.

The village is a tourist transit route on the C25 road from the coastal towns to Ugab River, Twyfelfontein, and Etosha National Park.
