The National Council has handed over a donation of N$27,609 to the Namibia-Cuba Solidarity Campaign in support of humanitarian assistance for the Cuban people.

The contribution was raised through individual donations from members of the National Council.

National Council Chairperson Lukas Muha says the contribution reflects Namibia's longstanding solidarity with Cuba and the Council's commitment to supporting the Cuban people.

"This is to show that we are on course. This is not even enough, but what I'm trying to say here is it was given in good faith. That is the importance of as small as it is; it will make a difference by the time it reaches its destination or its final destination."

Muha says that the bonds between Namibia and Cuba are not merely diplomatic but that they are rooted in a shared history of sacrifice.

Deputy Chairperson of the National Solidarity Committee with Cuba, Ambassador Tuliameni Kalomoh, expressed gratitude to the National Council and said the contribution will go towards addressing humanitarian needs in Cuba, including the provision of medicines, medical supplies and solar kits.

"This tells them; this encourages them that they are not alone. It tells them that the bonds forged between our two peoples through history remain strong and unbreakable. And it reminds us all that true solidarity is special, not only by words, but by concrete, demonstrable action."

Kalomoh further appealed to Namibians, businesses and industry leaders to support the ongoing campaign, emphasising that the initiative is humanitarian, non-partisan and voluntary.

He says the campaign will continue to mobilise support, with every contribution, regardless of size, helping to demonstrate to the Cuban people that they are not alone.
