O'Linn Nauyoma, the teenager who drowned in Lake Guinas in the Oshikoto Region last September, was buried on Saturday in Ohalushu Village, Ohangwena Region. His body was recovered three weeks ago.
The emotional send-off provided much-needed relief to family, friends, and fellow students from Etosha Secondary School, as Nauyoma passed away at the age of 16 four months ago.
Nauyoma drowned on September 8 of last year, and, after an extensive
search, his remains were discovered in the lake three weeks ago. DNA results confirmed his identity.
Details surrounding the circumstances of his drowning remain unclear, and police continue to investigate.
His father, Kornelius Nauyoma, described the months following the tragedy as a time of great anguish for the family and expressed gratitude to those who assisted in recovering his son.
"Since last year we couldn't sleep, but I am indebted to the divers who retrieved my son's remains from the lake. Now it’s better since he is back home in the land of his ancestors. We are now awaiting the conclusion of the investigations so we can obtain the answers we need regarding the circumstances of our son's demise."
His fellow learners also offered emotional tributes.
