Police in the Zambezi Region are investigating a case of forgery and document tampering involving a 30-year-old resident of Kongola.
Zambezi Regional Police Commander, Commissioner Andreas Shilelo, confirmed that the suspect was arrested on Monday at the Katima Mulilo Open Market. The individual is accused of altering learners’ academic symbols to higher grades, allegedly to help them qualify for further education and job opportunities.
Speaking to nbc News in Katima Mulilo, Shilelo revealed that a computer, laptop, hard drive, and various gadgets, including cellphones, were found in the suspect’s possession.
Authorities suspect that some schools in the Zambezi Region may have unknowingly enrolled students with falsified academic records. Shilelo also warned that the scam could have spread to other regions, including |Khomas and the two Kavango regions.
Meanwhile, Zambezi Education Director Alex Sikume confirmed that his office is aware of the situation and has instructed schools to review the records of all newly enrolled learners.
