Lindsay Ackerman, a self-admitted former drug addict turned advocate, is sharing her story to discourage drug abuse among the youth in Walvis Bay.

In an interview with Nbc News, Ackerman recounted her journey from addiction to recovery.

At just 13 years old, seeking acceptance and an escape from her circumstances, she began using drugs.

What started as casual experimentation quickly escalated into addiction.

Now 61, Ackerman is deeply concerned about the impact of drug abuse on young lives and stresses the importance of effective prevention

strategies. She described her road to recovery as challenging, marked by multiple rehabilitation attempts and relapses.

It wasn't until she realized she was losing everything she held dear that she sought help and committed to her recovery.

Currently, Ackerman is actively involved in community outreach programs, where she shares her experiences and offers support to those grappling with addiction.

She emphasizes the critical role of early intervention and education in preventing young people from repeating the mistakes of the past.

Ackerman also expresses mixed feelings about law enforcement and the criminal justice approach to addiction.

Through her advocacy, she aims to guide youth away from addiction and encourage healthier choices within her community.
