The Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr. Kalumbi Shangula, has underscored the importance of public-private partnerships in achieving the Ministry's mission of providing integrated, affordable, and responsive healthcare to all Namibians.
Dr. Shangula highlighted that the support from Navachab Gold Mine serves as a perfect example of how such collaborations can drive transformative improvements in the healthcare system.
A significant collaboration between the Karibib Town Council, the Ministry of Health and Social Services, and Navachab Gold Mine has marked the beginning of a new chapter for the community with the groundbreaking ceremony for a new health centre.
Dr. Shangula said that the facility promises to be a beacon of hope, enhancing access to quality healthcare services for Karibib and surrounding areas.
The project, with an initial investment of N$15 million from Navachab Gold Mine, is a strong demonstration of the power of public-private partnerships in delivering vital public health services.
This initiative will not only improve healthcare delivery in Karibib but also set a precedent for future collaborative efforts aimed at strengthening Namibia's healthcare infrastructure.
Dr. Shangula emphasised that such partnerships are crucial for the continued progress of the country's healthcare system and expressed gratitude for the mine's role in supporting this important cause.
"This facility will empower our healthcare providers, allowing them to deliver high-quality care to families right within their communities. Today, we reaffirm our commitment to dismantling barriers to health access and building a healthier, more equitable public health system for all. "
The Mayor of Karibib, Davey Van Wyk, said the new health centre will serve as a vital resource for the community, enhancing overall well-being and access to necessary medical services.
"This health centre is not just a building. It is a symbol of the brighter future we are all working toward. It represents hope, opportunity, and a collective effort to uplift each other. Together, we can make Karibib a place where every person has access to the healthcare they deserve."
Managing Director of Navachab Gold Mine, George Botshiwe, said they stand ready to support projects that have the potential for a strong social impact for a broader section of the community.
"What we are witnessing today, the construction of a world-class medical facility in Karibib, is the culmination of a consultative process between the mine and the community of Karibib, represented by both the town council as well as the constituency councillor's office and individual residents of Karibib."
Construction is set to start in June 2025 to allow the contractor to establish and order necessary equipment and material.
