Hardap Governor Salomon April highlighted the significance of this year’s International Women’s Day, coinciding with the election of Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah as Swapo’s first female president.

He spoke at the Women’s Day celebration in Stampriet Village.

March 8 marks International Women’s Day globally, honouring women’s social, economic, cultural, and political achievements. This year’s theme is "Accelerate Action."

April stated: "For Namibia, this year’s Women’s Day is historic. It’s exceptional for our country as the highest office has been elevated by a woman."

During the event, women called for gender equality, an end to gender-based violence (GBV), and stronger efforts against HIV/AIDS.

"Addressing GBV requires collective action from individuals, communities, governments, and organizations. We must raise awareness, challenge stereotypes, promote gender equality, and ensure survivors receive support and justice," a speaker emphasized.

Carla Rooi, a learner at Stampriet Combined School, added:  "Engage women in local communities and the nation. Task women with responsibilities, and the nation will prosper. Women are society’s pillars and must be empowered to achieve their full potential."
