As Namibia explores its natural resources and transitions to green energy, the Eco Dialogue Collective is an essential initiative, ensuring that this exploration is sustainable and equitable, benefiting all Namibians while protecting the environment.
Funded by the European Union, the Eco Dialogue Collective will play a pivotal role in Namibia's transition to a greener economy by promoting transparency and accountability in the management of natural resources.
The initiative aims to guarantee equitable benefits from Namibia's natural resources by fostering public participation and oversight through civil society and media engagement.
Additionally, the project empowers media and civil society to enhance transparency, accountability, and access to information while amplifying the voices of affected communities in decision-making.
Speakers at the launch emphasized the need for progress in the energy transition, including green hydrogen, oil and gas, and renewable sources such as wind and solar, to benefit all Namibians. This is particularly critical as Namibia stands on the brink of a significant economic transformation.
The Eco Dialogue Collective is built on three core approaches to ensure the sustainable and equitable management of Namibia's natural resources: content creation, dialogue and advocacy, and capacity building.
These approaches include a collaborative newsroom that produces high-quality reporting on green growth and environmental issues, as well as training for journalists and civil society members to investigate, analyze, and communicate complex issues related to green energy.
EU Deputy Head of Mission to Namibia, Ian Dupont, reaffirmed the EU's commitment to strengthening civic engagement and human rights.
The Eco Dialogue Collective will ensure that Namibia's green economy and extractive industries are developed inclusively, transparently, and sustainably.
