The unrest in Congo has significantly impacted trade between Namibia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
A recent check by nbc's Zambian correspondent, Wamundila Chilinda, revealed that not a single Namibian truck was present at the Kasumbalesa border facility between Zambia and the DRC.
However, Area District Commissioner Precious Njekwa has assured that the safety of truck drivers is now secured following discussions with her Congolese counterparts.
Kasumbalesa, once
a bustling business hub connecting Namibia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and
Tanzania, has become increasingly dangerous. As a result, many companies are avoiding trade with the DRC due to safety concerns for their truckers.
Despite these challenges, Chililabimbwe District Commissioner Precious Njekwa has informed business leaders that the situation for the movement of goods and services across the border has returned to normal.
Meanwhile, investors, including those from China, continue to bring mining equipment into the DRC.
