The leader of the Uukwaludhi Traditional Authority, Omukwaniilwa gwuuKwaaludhi Shikongo Taapopi, has said the traditional authority is in full support of President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, saying her ascent to the presidency is a blueprint for future generations.
The 90-year-old Omukwaniilwa, who has been at the helm of the authority since 1960, has led the community for 65 years. He says the traditional authority is looking forward to unparalleled leadership that has the needs of the people at the centre.
He said that in ancient times, women around the world, especially those in Africa, were suppressed and were not considered leaders, and therefore, in Namibia, nothing will ever be the same again.
Taapopi stated that the traditional authority is happy with the boldness displayed by the President in reducing the size of the Cabinet as well as assembling a formidable and inclusive team of ministers, saying their commitment can drive Namibia to greater heights.
"In the whole of Namibia, we want her to unite all the local traditional authorities so that they can be working hand in hand with her in reaching community members, especially those who are disadvantaged. We believe in her, and we know she is set to work in the interest of the people, and she will work hard to ensure she corrects all the wrongs. I also call on our people to give her the necessary support in her leadership and should assist her with ideas that can be considered to make Namibia a better place."
He said the traditional authority will give its support to the programmes of government and stand ready to assist whenever they are called upon by the President.
Also speaking to nbc News, the Omunyekadhi gwuUkwaluudhi, Nandjala Taapopi said she is proud of the president, and so far in the public appearances she made, her message of a better Namibia and hard work stood out.
"Those that are now in cabinet should ensure that they work well and carry out the vision of the President and the country at large. I am happy that the President made it clear that she will not work with lazy people who procrastinate. I also want them to come to the community and listen to them, and not just be in their offices. Teamwork is key in bringing the much-needed change for our people."
She also called for the revival of meetings between the spouses of traditional leaders and the president so that they can put forth the challenges their communities are facing.
The two also wished the President the best during the years of her reign.
