Defending champions UNAM got off to a winning start in the Namibia Rugby Union Women's League by beating the 2024 finalists Wanderers 15-34.

The 2024 women's rugby champions, UNAM, started off their 2025 season with a win over host team Wanderers.

The match began with three consecutive tries, the first of which came from right wing Ina Gabama.

UNAM's second try was scored by the 2024 season's top try scorer, Ivone Kooper.

Left wing Ewina Kastoor then added her name to the tally, giving UNAM a 17-0 lead.

Host team Wanderers then had their breakthrough with a try from scrum-half Dimitha Wagner.

The attention then turned back to UNAM as tighthead prop Eunice Pollman was sent off with a red card for a forearm charge.

With UNAM reduced to 14 players, Wanderers took advantage of the opportunity, running in their second try, this time from newcomer Joana van Staden.

At halftime, the score stood at Wanderers 10, UNAM 17.

In the second half, UNAM's Kooper added two more tries to her tally, further extending their lead.

Wanderers responded with captain Mandie van Standen crashing over for their third and final try.

However, the defending champions were not done yet, as Kooper completed her fourth try, bringing UNAM's total score to 34.

Final Score: Wanderers 15, UNAM 34
