The prestigious annual //Kharas Governor's Cup has officially kicked off in the southern town of Keetmanshoop, with four zonal teams competing in netball, football, volleyball, and rugby.

Twelve teams, representing all seven constituencies of the //Kharas region, have gathered to showcase their skills and sportsmanship.

The Governor’s Cup is a cornerstone event aimed at promoting youth development through sports. It provides young athletes with a platform to showcase their talents, build camaraderie, and promote healthy living.

At the official opening, //Kharas Governor Aletha Frederick emphasized the importance of the tournament in nurturing young talent and encouraging sportsmanship.

“This tournament has become a trademark of our region, embodying our commitment to 'Youth Development through Sport.' Each year, we witness the excitement and enthusiasm of our youth as they participate and showcase their talents. It’s a time where we celebrate young talent, camaraderie, and the remarkable impact of sports” she said.

Governor Frederick also expressed gratitude to the stakeholders whose support makes the event possible each year.

“This event would not be celebrated annually without the generous contributions from our esteemed sponsors. The Governor's Cup cannot take place without the unwavering support and cooperation from our partners, and many others who have assisted us in the past” Frederick said.

The finals for netball, football, volleyball, and rugby are set to take place on Sunday.
