The International Charity Day Bazaar, hosted by the Association of Diplomatic Spouses in Namibia, took place on Saturday in the capital. Held at Windhoek International School under the theme “Education – Back to Basics,” the event brought together around 70 embassies, high commissions, and global organizations. Attendees enjoyed a vibrant display of traditional crafts, international cuisine, and live performances from across the world.
Ethan Van Drunen, Educational Director of Windhoek International School, remarked: “Where else in Windhoek can you travel the world in a single day and celebrate our world’s diversity? At a time when there’s so much division, this is a no-politics zone—just pure cultural exchange.”
Mathias Geisler, President of the Association of Diplomatic Spouses, added: “This is a day of compassion, diversity, friendship, and discovery. For just a few Namibian dollars, locals can experience a global journey right here in Windhoek.”
The bazaar has been an annual tradition since Namibia’s independence in 1990, raising funds for charitable causes. Foreign participants said it was a chance to embrace unity in diversity while learning from each other’s cultures.
Yathriba Alum, First Secretary at the Indonesian Embassy, shared: “This is a very memorable moment for me. I arrived in February, so this is my first time attending. It’s wonderful to see the diplomatic community, students, and locals coming together, sharing their cultures and foods.”
Theresa Ballou, Protocol Officer at the Embassy of the Republic of Congo, echoed the sentiment: “You see countries from all over the world celebrating together. Beyond race, culture, or color, we are human, we are family, and we can live in harmony.”
The next International Charity Day Bazaar will take place in April 2026.
