Dams around the country are experiencing increased volumes of water inflows, following heavy rains.

Several major dams, including Von Bach, Omatako, Otjivero, Hardap, Neckartal and Naute, have seen heavy masses of water fill up their holding capacity.

The positive inflows observed over the past week have significantly boosted national water security, experts say.

Currently, Swakoppoort Dam recorded a slight decline, attributed to controlled overflow of water being transferred to Von Bach Dam, a process considered a vital step in efficiently managing distribution of water in the region.

Von Bach Dam has recorded continued positive inflows, benefitting from transfers from Swakoppoort Dam, which is currently at 100% capacity though on a slight decline of 1.568 cubic millimetres due to managed overflow.

Neckartal and Naute dams both are experiencing spilling, while Olushandja and Omatjenne dams have also recorded increases, indicating broader inflow activity across regions.

NamWater has urged residents in low-lying areas downstream of spilling dams to remain cautious of potential flooding.
