The Namibian Correctional Service (NCS) is on course with the establishment of infrastructure at Katima Mulilo-Liselo farm in the Zambezi Region.

The officer in charge of the developments at the farm, Commissioner John Kambimbi, in an interview with nbc News, said before the end of the year, the farm will be producing a variety of agricultural produce.

Kambimbi noted that NCS has already installed four new pumps, which will supply water from the Zambezi River to the farm for large-scale irrigation farming.

He said when the ploughing of maize started on a 70-hectare piece of land in 2024, only 14 correctional service officers were at the farm, but the number has since increased to 48.

Kambimbi said officers are deployed within the farm, performing different activities, including guarding it from vandalism that was experienced in the past.

The challenge faced currently is the cutting of the fence; however, Kambimbi says with the assistance of their Zambian counterparts, they have managed to embark on the joint project.

The old pipes too will be replaced as they are ageing.

He cautioned those living along the fence and the nearby areas to cooperate with those running the farm and report all criminal activities they observe to the authorities.

The Katima Liselo farm is situated on a 400-hectare piece of land, and its completion will not only feed inmates but also act as a food basket.
