The First National Bank of Namibia donated 800 mosquito nets to expectant mothers in the Zambezi Region to support efforts in the fight against malaria.
Zambezi Health Director Woita Kampuburu welcomed the gesture.
"As the directorate, our understanding of this donation is of FNB actually saying, here is our contribution to the health of the general public, and by extension, FNB is also saying, through you as the Ministry of Health and Social Services, this is our contribution to taking care of our clients. This gesture is therefore truly appreciated."
FNB Branch Manager Richie Howaeb commended the Ministry of Health and Social Services' tireless efforts in combatting malaria.
Howaeb encouraged the community to cooperate with the health officials by giving them access to their homes for residual spraying and other services to control mosquito populations.
"We stand in unity with the people of Katima Mulilo and reaffirm our commitment to working hand in hand with the Ministry of Health and Social Services to combat malaria."
Zambezi Governor Alufea Sampofu appealed to the beneficiaries of the mosquito nets to use them for the intended purpose.
"Call upon the beneficiaries to take care of theses, of which I am informed that they are very durable. As winter is starting, we are most likely to see a decline in malaria cases; however, we should store them well in order for us to use them in the next rainy season. But the problem is that when we see mosquito nets, we think of fishing; that should not be the case. When we see mosquito nets."
