The second phase of construction at the Ondangwa Sports Stadium is ongoing, with preparations for the soccer pitch and pavilions set to begin in May 2025.
The Ondangwa Sports Stadium, which broke ground on June 7, 2022, is progressing into its second phase.
This phase will include the installation of natural turf and the construction of three pavilions in the coming months.
Currently, workers on-site are applying the final touches to prepare the pitch for the installation of natural grass, with pavilion construction scheduled to follow soon.
The Ondangwa Town Council aims to develop the stadium according to CAF Category 3 standards, ensuring high-quality infrastructure and meticulous attention to detail at every stage.
NBC Sport visited the site and spoke with Ondangwa Town Council CEO, Ismael Namgongo, for the latest updates on the project.
Namgongo expressed pride in the town's ambitious initiative, emphasizing that Ondangwa is leading the way in large-scale sports infrastructure development.
He encouraged other town councils to pursue similar projects, despite the financial challenges faced across various regions.
The Ondangwa Sports Stadium-also known as the Northern Namibia High-Performance Center-is just one component of a larger set of planned facilities that will enhance the town's sports landscape upon completion.
The CEO hopes that by the end of the year, various sporting activities will commence at the Ondangwa Stadium, marking a major milestone in the town's sports development efforts.
