Otjiwarongo Intermediate Hospital and Omaruru District Hospital joined the rest of the world in commemorating International Nurses Day, honouring the dedication and resilience of healthcare workers who continue to serve on the frontlines.

With a population of over 100 nurses, Otjiwarongo Intermediate Hospital remains a cornerstone of patient care in the region.

Its Senior Medical Officer, Shawana Amesho, commended the commitment and compassion shown by nurses under all circumstances.

"Whether it's early morning hours or still late at night, you remain at the bedside, in the community, or on the frontlines saving lives, easing pain, and restoring dignity. We see you, and we appreciate you so much."

In Omaruru, Chief Regional Nurse Manager for the Erongo Region, Leonard Mauha, described the nurses as agents of change who play a vital role not only in treating illnesses but in sustaining the fabric of communities.

"We do not just treat illnesses, we keep families whole, communities functioning, and nations moving forward. Whether in rural areas, townships, or urban hospitals, we are providing care where it is needed most, often in the face of great challenges."

Mauha further emphasised the importance of investing in nurses by supporting their mental well-being, providing decent housing and training opportunities, and creating respectful working environments.

As part of the day's events, nurses at both hospitals received Certificates of Appreciation.

This year, International Nurses Day is being observed under the theme "Our Nurses, Our Future, The Economic Power of Caring".
