Some Members of Parliament and political leaders in the Erongo Region joined the nation in planting trees in honour of the late Founding President Sam Nujoma at Swakopmund.

The Erongo Governor led the initiative held at the open area earmarked for the construction of a government office park at Swakopmund.

Erongo Governor Neville Andre indicated that planting trees is a befitting way to pay homage to a visionary leader whose commitment laid a foundation for a great nation.

"This tree will stand as a living tribute to his enduring impact on our lives and our nation, a reminder of the roots of our democracy and the branches of progress that extend into our future."

The Chairperson of Erongo Regional Council, Tegako Donatus, said, "We want to continue remembering the Founding Father and grow his legacy for generations to come. We will ensure to add more trees each year in memory of this great son of the soil."

Swakopmund Mayor, Blasius !Goraseb said, "Not only is it a simple tree we are planting, but we are planting hope, and we are planting growth, and we are adding to the greenery that already exists in the town."

The members of parliament who participated in the national exercise chose to plant the trees at Swakopmund, where they are attending their second induction seminar.

"We will always be connected with 12 May, and in remembrance this year, we decided to plant trees for the safeguarding of our environment and planet Earth," says Phillipus Katamelo, the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly.

The Minister of Justice and Labour Relations, Wise Immanuel, said, "He sacrificed, you know, his youthfulness just for the well-being of us, and there is nothing that truly signifies that more than ensuring that everyone had a meaningful life, and by planting these trees, we are exactly signifying that."

Swapo Party MP in the National Assembly, Uahekua Herunga, added that "We are aware of many areas that have been reforested by Dr. Sam Nujoma; hence, we felt it proper for us to come and plant these trees just to honour him, just to keep him in our memory."
