A candlelight vigil was held in Windhoek in memory of 19-year-old Pius Kalipa.

Family, friends, and community members marched from the Katutura Youth Centre to the riverbed behind the Swapo Party headquarters, the site where Kalipa's body was discovered on the 28th of May.

CCTV footage from the Windhoek City Police has shed light on the final moments of 19-year-old Pius Kalipa, who died on Wednesday, May 28.

Kalipa had just collected the day’s earnings from his mother’s tuckshop near the Damara bus stop and was on his way home to Pioneerspark. Before leaving, he phoned his mother to let her know he was about to catch a taxi.

Surveillance video shows him walking up Kindergarten Street, then out of the camera’s view.

Later that evening, around 19:45, Kalipa was found behind the Swapo Party headquarters. He was still alive at the time but had suffered a stab wound to the chest and later died from severe blood loss.

According to his mother, Anna Ngola, Kalipa managed to tell police officers that he was attacked by two men.

She officially identified his body two days later, on Friday, May 30.

Robbers or murderers of the 19-year-old got away with his iPhone and N$900.

At a night vigil, those who took part shared their sentiments.

Kalipa will be buried this Saturday at the Pioneerspark cemetery.
