Emeritus Dean Stefanus Tiboth, a long-serving clergyman of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Republic of Namibia (ELCRN), was laid to rest in his hometown of Berseba in the ||Kharas Region on Saturday.

The 80-year-old, who passed away three weeks ago, was honoured by family, friends, and mourners, including Vice President Lucia Witbooi, who gathered to pay their final respects.

Tiboth was remembered as a devoted family man, an advocate for social justice, and a spiritual leader who served both God and his community with dedication.

In his sermon, Emeritus Deputy Bishop of the ELCRN, Paul Kisting, praised the late Tiboth’s unwavering faith and likened him to the prophet Stefanus, who remained steadfast despite life’s challenges.

Swapo Party Secretary General Sophia Shaningwa, in a tribute delivered by Politburo and Central Committee member Steve Ovambo, described Tiboth as a revolutionary figure who played a vital role in the country’s liberation movement.

"We are embodied by his enduring spirit, which continues to start up the flames of revolution within us. Comrade Stefanus Tiboth's contribution to Namibian independence and the Swapo Party's mission will never be forgotten. His life was built on cherishing and shaping the new Namibia. We cannot forget him; we are still celebrating. A legend like a tree," said Ovambo.

Theo Tiboth, speaking on behalf of the family, expressed heartfelt words about his father’s passing.

"Father, we were already longing for you. We knew your departure was near, and we could see that your final days were upon you. Yet, we were not ready to let you go. Still, who are we to question if it is God, our Lord, who has called you home?"

Cynthia Ortman, speaking on behalf of the Afrikaner clan, also paid tribute.

"Whenever we heard that soft-spoken voice of yours, we knew that someone strong, firm and serious was talking and was in command. You enforced a spiritual meaning of life into us for which we are very grateful. We may have lost you, Oupa Tiboth. But your wisdom and love will guide us forever."

The late Tiboth is survived by his wife, seven children, and grandchildren.
