NamPower has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the country's electricity supply security by adopting a least-cost supply mix and boosting local generation capacity.

Its Managing Director, Kahenge Haulofu, said this at the groundbreaking ceremony of the 100-megawatt Sores |Gaib Power Station on Thursday.

Set to go operational by June 2026, Sores |Gaib Solar PV Power Station will be the largest of its kind in the country, providing electricity to 123,000 households annually.

It is expected to make a substantial contribution to the national grid by offsetting a large portion of imported energy and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

"The vision of this project is not just generation but that of transformation. It is about transforming how we power our lives, how we manage our natural resources, how we create jobs, and how we shape the future for the next generation. As NamPower, we believe that energy is not just about infrastructure. It is about impact. Impact on households that gain access to sustainable energy, on businesses that thrive because of reliable electricity, and on communities that gain new economic opportunities."

NamPower contracted the joint venture China Jiangxi International Corporation and China New Energy Development, whose Managing Director is Deng Yan.

"Our role as the EPC contractor for the 100-megawatt PV plant demonstrates not only our technical competency but also our deep commitment to project excellence under timely delivery. We fully understand that this project is more than a renewable energy initiative. It is a cornerstone of the region, sustainable development and a significant step towards energy independence.

The Solar PV Project is located 33 kilometres northwest of Rosh Pinah and is expected to create over 300 jobs.

The contractor committed to 25% local content equivalent in monetary value of N$365 million.
